Beaches convenient to Hafod y Gwynt
Below are listed some of the more convenient beaches, with brief notes. Purchase an O.S. map of the area and use this as a base line to explore more of the North Wales Coast, you will be surprised at the wonderful places that you discover.
DINAS DINLLE:Considered to be the nearest. 3 mile beach with good sands backed with shingle. Interesting Bronze Age hill fort on headland, now half eroded away by the sea. Cafe, shop, pub and car parking (C.P.)
BLACK ROCK SANDS: Two miles of spectacular sand with dunes, caves rocks and surfing. Take your car on the Beach! Safe bathing except at Southern end of beach. Recommended.
ABERDESACH: Pebbly beach with some sand at low tide. C.P.
TREFOR: Quite beach of sand and shingle with small quay wall.C.P.
NEFYN: 2 mile sweep of clean gentle sloping sands. Boat trips, beach huts etc. C.P.
MORFA NEFYN: Curving sandy beach reached by lane from village. Swimming safe except for rocks off western headland. C.P.
ABERDARON: 2 miles of fine sands with lovely remote village, Pub, shops, ancient church. Good surfing conditions.
PORTH NEIGWL ( Hells Mouth). 4 miles of sand backed by steep cliffs (rock climbing), reached by easy footpath. Ideal for Surfing! C.P.
ABERSOCH: Two extensive sandy beaches. Popular sailing and water sports centre. Beach huts and deck chairs. C.P.
LLANBEDROG: Sheltered beach extending to wooded headland. Miniature golf and tennis courts nearby. C.P.
PWLLELI: Long sweep of sand and shingle backed by promenade. East of the harbour is the dune backed Glan y Don beach (4 miles long). Unsafe to swim near Gibblet Rock or harbour mouth.
CRICCIETH : Attractive beach at low tide, sand with pebbles. Shallow crystal clear waters. Children's playground, bowls, tennis etc. Shops, cafes, boat hire. Castle too worth a visit. Seek out the ice creme shop!
ANGLESEY is surrounded by an amazing number of beautiful beaches, and in other places the coast line is very spectacular, all within reasonable driving distance from the house; the Menai bridge is about 20 minutes away. Again a ordinance survey map will unlock the sites. Look for Newbougher, Benllech, Moelfre, Traeth Coch, Traeth Llugwy & Dulas Bay, Treaddur Bay, Aberfraw and Llanddwyn.
That's about it for now, but perhaps I should mention that I have missed out Harlech and ........... and........! Perhaps you will find time to explore and search out all the other wonderful places around the coast of Snowdonia.
